Troubleshooting ID Card Issues

From Prime ID – helping you keep your cards looking sharp and lasting longer

Even with high-quality printing, ID cards can develop small issues over time. Here’s how to spot, prevent, and fix the most common problems so your badges always look their best.

🩸 1. Faded or patchy print

  • Causes: sunlight, cleaning chemicals, or low-resolution images.
Fix: Store cards away from direct sunlight, use photos at least 600 × 800 px, and check printer ribbons or settings before reprints.

🧼 2. Scratches or surface marks

Causes: Rough handling, metal clips, or pockets with keys.
Fix: Use rigid holders for protection and replace damaged cards promptly.

💧 3. Bubbling or peeling laminate

Causes: Heat exposure (cars, heaters) or weak lamination bond.
Fix: Keep cards cool and flat. Contact us - we’ll replace any defective prints free of charge.

💶 4. Cards not scanning or swiping

  • Ensure QR codes or magnetic stripes aren’t covered by holders.
Clean gently with a soft cloth and avoid stickers or writing over scannable areas.

🧩 5. Blurry or off-centre reprints

Causes: Poor-quality source photo or misaligned layout files.
Fix: Send us an artwork sample - our templates ensure perfect alignment and crisp detail.

💡 Final tip

If you reorder cards regularly, keep a small reserve batch on hand. It saves time and prevents mismatched reprints if designs have changed.
